Zircon on albite/phlogopite matrix with nepheline
Gridone near Camedo, Centovalli, Ticino, Switzerland 
 
Intact, extensive, pink-colored zirconium crystal (2 cm x 1.7 cm) on matrix. Strongly distorted habitus type sz*14, with rare {001} face (cf. LAPIS 10/2007, p. 20). A good showpiece, easy to present. Retrieved May 2019 from the #2 nepheline pegmatite on the north flank of the Gridone, ex Stefan Weiß collection (H.859-89). All zircons from this site, which is unique worldwide, are chemically particularly pure and therefore show an intense yellow fluorescence in short-wave UV light!
