Zircon on Albite/Phlogopite matrix with NephelineGridone near Camedo, Centovalli, Ticino, Switzerland
Pristine pinkish Zircon crystal (2 x 1.7 cm) rich in faces and with local accretions by phlogopite, showing interesting, "melted" looking faces on the rear. Strongly distorted habit type sz*14, with rare {001}-face (cf. LAPIS 10/2007, p. 20). A good cabinet specimen, presents well. Recovered in Mai 2019 from Nepheline pegmatite #2 on the northern flank of Gridone mountain, ex Stefan Weiß collection(H.859-89). All Zircons of this worldwide unique locality are chemically particularly pure and hence show an intense yellow fluorescence in short-wave UV light!
