Zirkon in Nepheline/Albite/Phlogopite matrix -
Gridone near Camedo, Centovalli, Ticino, Switzerland
Pristine pink-brown crystal in the classical habit type s24 (cf. LAPIS 10/2007, p. 20). The free-standing tip is divided in two by a matrix section, which makes for a spectacular fluorescence image in short-wave UV light! Beautiful specimen, well presentable. Recovered in August 2019 from Nepheline pegmatite #2 on the northern flank of Gridone mountain, ex Stefan Weiß collection. All Zircons of this worldwide unique locality are chemically particularly pure and hence show an intense yellow fluorescence in short-wave UV light!
