Zircon on albite/phlogopite matrix with nepheline
 Gridone near Camedo, Centovalli, Ticino, Switzerland

 Large and intact, multi-faceted, pink zircon crystals (up to approx. 1.5 cm) on matrix. Strongly distorted habit type sz*14, with a rare {001} facet (cf. LAPIS 10/2007, p. 20). A fine specimen, easily presented. Recovered in May 2017 from nepheline pegmatite #2 on the north face of Gridone, formerly part of the Stefan Weiß Collection (H.859-89). All zircons from this globally unique locality are chemically exceptionally pure and therefore exhibit intense yellow fluorescence under short-wave UV light!
