Zircon as a doubly-terminated crystal in Nepheline/Albite/Phlogopite matrix
Gridone near Camedo, Centovalli, Ticino, Switzerland
Pretty pink Zircon crystal (1.8 cm) on Nepheline-rich pegmatite matrix. Habit of transition type s22 to sz14, showing small rare face {001} (cf. LAPIS 10/2007, p. 20). Recovered in May 2017 from Nepheline pegmatite #2 on the northern flank of Gridone mountain, ex Stefan Weiß collection (H.859-71). All Zircons of this worldwide unique locality are chemically particularly pure and hence show an intense yellow fluorescence in short-wave UV light!
