Cinnabar 'Coral Ore' – Idria Mine, Idrija (Idria), Slovenia
 
Cinnabar finds from Idria are almost non-existent these days. This is a fairly large piece of coarse mercury ore - massive Zinnober var Coralinerz (German 'coral ore'). It is an amorphous mixture of cinnabar, clay and coal with typically curved lamellar structures and slight reddish reflections. Sometimes hydrocarbons (idrialite) are also present. This synonym is very old, mentioned at the beginning of the 18th century in connection with the Idria mines and is probably due to the reddish color of the ore.
