Tourmaline Var. Elbaite – Little Three Mine, Ramona, San Diego County, California, USA

This is an excellent, large, unusually transparent green tourmaline crystal in good condition from the famous Little Three Mine. Even under normal lighting, the crystal has an intense bottle green color. In transmitted light, it reveals various shades of green and good transparency. Particularly noteworthy is the color at the end face, which is significantly lighter but just as intense.

The high-gloss crystal has beautiful stripes.

The Little Three pegmatite is known for its excellent spessartite garnets, topazes, schorl, and elbaite. However, elbaite crystals are typically much darker and more opaque than this beautiful collector's piece.

Historic crystal from the 1960s with unusually good color, transparency and considerable size.
