Corundum Var. Sapphire – Antsongombato pegmatite, Mahaiza, Southern Betafo, Madagascar

Sapphires up to 14mm wide, embedded in calcite, adorn this specimen from Madagascar. The gemstones boast a magnificent luster and a striking violet color, which is rarely seen. Crystals on host rock are even rarer. This piece from the late 1970s comes from the collection of Robert Scheck.
