Rutile - Grieswies, Rauris, Austria
The 2.8 cm long rutile crystal presents itself in its full length grown on the quartz on this matrix piece. A 1 cm large rutile can also be found on this specimen. Both rutiles have a metallic luster and shimmer red in direct light. The terminations are sharply crystallized.
The Rauris is known for its diverse quartz finds. Almost all deposits are in the core zone of the Hohe Tauern National Park. For some years now, collecting minerals has only been possible here with a special permit. Because of this, minerals from the Rauris are rarely offered. The quartz specimen comes from the collection of Josef Kolb, who has been searching for minerals there regularly since the 1970s.
