Gigantic, model-like double-terminated ruby crystal from India!
This enormous ruby crystal from the Indian subcontinent weighs approximately 780 grams. The purple crystal beautifully displays its leafy growth and, as corundum, has an incredible hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale. The word ruby is derived from the Latin "ruber," meaning red, and refers to the reddish corundum.
The Mysore site covers an area of several thousand square kilometers in the state of Karnataka, which lies approximately in the middle of India.
