Rhodochrosite - Zanett Tunnel, The Amphitheater, Ouray Mining District, Ouray Co., Colorado, USA.
Well terminated, light pink Rhodochrosite rhombohedron sitting on a slab of partially water-clear "needle" quartz. The large rhodochrosite crystal is surrounded by several smaller ones and measures 1.2 cm. For this locality an unusually large and extremely aesthetic specimen from the early 1980s. The Zanett Tunnel is named after the family that owns the Grizzly Bear mine. Rhodochrosite specimens from this mine are among the most sought-after San Juan rhodochrosites among Colorado collectors.
