Smoky Quartz – Galenstock, Rhone Glacier, Valais, Switzerland
 
Smoky quartz specimen with a particularly intense color and superb luster. The contrast of the ''Coca-Cola colored'' smoky quartz to the light granite matrix is characteristic of the region and unique in the world. The long prismatic crystals are perfectly transparent, aesthetically structured and highly lustrous. Alpine classic in absolutely perfect quality. 
The typically leached fissured rock, on which the up to 5.4 cm long smoky quartz has grown, is provided all around with small quartzes and adularia. 
This particularly aesthetic piece comes from an altitude between 2,500 and 3,000 meters. Pieces like these are salvaged from the steep flanks of the Alps in laborious and dangerous manual work.
