Quartz with Calcite - Grieswies, Rauris, Austria
The 15.5 cm high crystal has a sharp shape and is undamaged. At the top, an ingrown adularia dimmish the otherwise perfect clarity of the crystal. In the lower third, the quartz is partly covered with calcite.
The Rauris is known for its diverse quartz finds. Almost all deposits are in the core zone of the Hohe Tauern National Park. For some years now, collecting minerals has only been possible here with a special permit. Because of this, minerals from the Rauris are rarely offered. The quartz specimen comes from the collection of Josef Kolb, who has been searching for minerals there regularly since the 1970s.
