Picromerite (Schönite), Halite – Potash works "Heinrich Rau", Roßleben, Thuringia, Germany
Rarity from Germany!
Aesthetically shaped paragenesis of rarely beautiful picromerite and water-clear halite. Picromerite, also known as schoenite, is a rare mineral that has only been found in a few deposits worldwide. Type locality is the famous Vesuvius volcano in Sicily.
From the Greek πικρός (pikros) for 'bitter' and μέρος (meros) for 'part' or 'portion' due to its bitter taste and its chemical relationship to Epsom salt Epsomite (Mg(SO4) 7H2O) (source Mineralienatlas)
