Mutanda Mine, Revier Kolwezi, Katanga, DR Kongo
Large primary Malachite tablets and leafy groups (up to 1 cm) on green/black copper/cobalt rich ore, consisting of granular Malachite with layers of Heterogenite, Co3+O(OH). The free-standing Malachites are, according to goniometric measurement, not pseudomorphs after Azurite, but primary wedge-shaped and c-axis-elongated Malachite tablets, their tops being formed by the prism {041}. Such large primary Malachite crystals are exceptionally rare worldwide! Found in 2016 in the Mutanda open pit by Edward R. Loye, Camborne School of Mines/GB; ex Stefan Weiß collection
