Kunzite - Chief Mountain, Pala, Pala Mining District, San Diego co., California, USA

ex collection Robert Scheck

Like most kunzite crystals, this piece has a nicely etched surface and a trichroic pink , i.e. a different color when viewed along each of its three axes. This piece in the very best gem quality with intense color comes from the Pala Mining District. This mineral was discovered and named there in 1903 by the mineralogist from Tiffany Co., George Frederick Kunz. Historic piece with label from the private collection of Wilhelm Niemetz.
