2 x Cassiterite to Feldspar – Wheal Coates, Cornwall, England
Former Umrath Collection
Former P. Pichler Collection, 1967
Two Carlsbad twin crystals of orthoclase feldspar, abundantly replaced by dark brown to black granular cassiterite. These rare and beautifully grown crystals originate from the Umrath Collection, from which they came to Peter Pichler's collection in 1967.
This unusual pseudomorph of cassiterite after perfectly formed orthoclase crystals was discovered in 1828 in Wheal Coates near St. Agnes in Cornwall. Their rarity has made them a highly sought-after English classic, found only in Cornwall. Since virtually no more finds exist, these rarities only come to market through old collections.
With lengths of 3.3 cm and 2.6 cm, these specimens have a truly magnificent size and also an excellent shape.
Excellent collectibles for this find from Wheal Coates.
