Silver on copper; "Halfbreed" – Lake Superior, Keweenaw, Michigan, USA
Copper-silver halfbreed specimens from Michigan are not commonly found, and it is always exciting when they (rarely!) appear on the market, as they exhibit, as can be clearly seen here, a distinct contrast between copper-red and silver hues. This large copper-silver halfbreed comes from the world-famous, but long-exhausted, copper deposits on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
This beautiful display piece is a slightly rounded copper mass (with clearly visible coarse crystal forms) with clearly discernible silver content on a larger, sculptural copper base. It is a very impressive piece and unusual in the abundance of both metals without them mixing.
Historical collector's item from the collection of the famous mineral dealer Anton Berger, Vienna.
