Fluorite Twin – Hilton Mine, Cumbria Co. UK

A wonderful, extremely aesthetic thumbnail featuring transparent yellow fluorite. The intensely colored fluorite is beautifully twinned and has a beautiful luster.

A super collector's item from the famous Hilton Mine.

Galena was mined as early as 1824 from limestone veins in the county of Westmore, near the town of Hilton, in northeast England. The mine has been closed since 1963, but was left open, allowing the discovery of outstanding honey- to golden-yellow fluorites with edge lengths of up to 2.5 cm in the 1960s and 1970s.

Good specimens from the Hilton Mine are rare, as underground mining has been strictly prohibited since the 1970s due to the risk of cave-in.
