Fluorite Twin – Hilton Mine, Cumbria Co. UK
Wonderful, extremely aesthetic specimen with transparent honey-yellow fluorites. The color-intensive fluorites are wonderfully twinned and have a beautiful luster.
A super collector's item from the famous Hilton Mine.
Galena was recovered as early as 1824 from the veins in the limestone in the north-east of England in the county of Westmore, near the town of Hilton. The mine has been out of operation since 1963, but was left open so that excellent honey- to golden-yellow fluorites with an edge length of up to 2.5 cm were found in the 1960s and 1970s.
Good grades from the Hilton Mine are rare because collecting underground has been strictly prohibited since the 1970s due to the risk of collapse.
