Fluorite Twin - Hilton Mine, Cumbria Co. UK

Wonderful, extremely aesthetic thumbnail with transparent yellow fluorite. The intensely colored fluorite is beautifully twinned and has a beautiful luster.

A super specimen from the famous Hilton mine.

Galena was mined as early as 1824 from the ore veins in the limestone in the north-east of England in the county of Westmore, near the town of Hilton. The mine has been out of service since 1963, but was left open so that excellent honey to golden yellow fluorite with an edge length of up to 2.5 cm could be found in the 1960s and 1970s.

Good specimens from the Hilton Mine are rare as collecting underground has been strictly prohibited since the 1970s due to the risk of collapse.
