Fluorite, Sphalerite, Ankerite – Diana Vein, Allenheads (Beaumont) Mine, Allenheads, East Allendale, Northumberland, England/UK
Found 1970s
This rare classic is rich in contrast, highly lustrous and with good aesthetics. Flawless fluorite twins of varying sizes extend across the specimen. Perfect, extensive sphalerite crystals have grown between the water-clear fluorites.
Lead mining at Allenheads Mine ceased in the mid-1800s due to reduced demand. With the start of demand for collection minerals, the mine was reactivated in 1969 (British Steal Corporation) and renamed Beaumont Mine. Until 1981 mainly fluorspar was found. The mine has been closed since then. Specimens of this quality from old collections are rarely offered.
Gorgeous rare 1970's classic from Northumberland, England.
Comparable specimens from the Diana Vein are now in the collections of the London Natural History Museum or the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC
