Fluorite – Pointe Kurz, Chamonix, France

Beautiful fluorite thumbnail with impressive color and wonderfully formed crystals from Mont Blanc!

As with all alpine finds, this magnificent specimen was also discovered by experienced mountaineers in extremely difficult and dangerous terrain. The French "Strahler" (rock hunters) are called "Cristallier." These Cristallier primarily work in the Mont Blanc massif, which is not only the highest but also one of the most technically demanding mountain ranges in the Alps. Therefore, the majority of mineral hunters in this area are experienced mountain guides. Adding to the challenges of the terrain, the altitude, and the freezing temperatures is a general ban on heavy tools, tents, and the use of helicopters. All these factors make searching in the mountains around Chamonix a truly unique adventure, and the recovered minerals extraordinary treasures!
