Fluorite - Ladywash Mine, Derbyshire, GB

This completely undamaged floater specimen comes from the Ladywash Mine. Colorless Fluorite crystals up to 2.2 cm on the edge cover a matrix of various ore minerals including Barite, Chalcopyrite and Sphalerite.

The Ladywash Mine above the village of Eyam in north Derbyshire produced excellent fluorite for many years, for which the contained sulfides are characteristic.

Good specimens from the Ladywash mine are rare, as underground collecting has been strictly forbidden since the 1970s because of the danger of collapse.
