Fluorite - Westcross Vein, Heights Mine, Weardale, UK
Matrix specimen with lavender-colored fluorite hexahedra with beveled edges and aragonite. The perfectly transparent and lustrous fluorites rise from the white aragonite. This contrast makes the otherwise rather weak violet color clearly visible. Thanks to the good transparency, the fine phantoms are clearly visible. What is special about this piece is the 2.2 cm large penetration twin in best quality. Free-standing and perfectl in size, it could easily come from a textbook. Apart from a contact point that is barely visible to the naked eye, this dominant, as well as almost all other crystals at this level, are unharmed.
