Fluorite on Sphalerite – Elmwood Mine, Carthage, Smith Co., Tennessee, USA

From the interior of the transparent fluorite cube with purple edges, a perfect yellow fluorite shines with razor-sharp dark purple zoning. This aesthetic collector's piece consists of two cube-shaped crystals on a layer of sphalerite. The outer zoning of the fluorites is crystal-clear, with each edge of the parcellated surface tinged with purple, giving the impressive specimen a pleasing, consistent shade of purple. Additionally, the fluorites feature dark spots of the same color.

In perfect contrast, a yellow core is equally transparent, revealing itself beautifully even without additional lighting. In contrast to the packaged surfaces, the edges of the larger cube are completely smooth, allowing an unobstructed view of the sharp-edged phantom formation within. The corners are naturally dissolved and crystallized over large areas.

The different surface structures and the color contrast make this fluorite on sphalerite a unique display piece of the highest class!

As is often the case with fluorites from the Elmwood Mine, the detached back side is beautifully recrystallized.

Wonderful collector's item from the 1980s from this site in the USA, famous for its excellent fluorites.
