Fluorite, Calcite, Malachite, Chalcopyrite – Minerva No. 1 Mine, Cave in Rock, Hardin Co., Illinois, USA
A rarity from the famous fluorite mine. Calcite with malachite on fluorite!
Several calcite rhombs coated with malachite make this fluorite a special showcase specimen!
A large, intensely colored fluorite specimen with lustrous, highly packaged, and complexly colored crystals. The finely differentiated color zoning with alternating bands of bright yellow and violet is characteristic of fluorite specimens from the "Minerva #1" mine. A few chalcopyrites on some crystal faces provide a beautiful contrast to the intensely colored corners and edges of the cubic crystals.
A beautiful classic from a well-known locality that is unfortunately no longer in operation and therefore cannot produce new specimens of this unique quality.
