Faden quartz, smoky quartz – Fedenstock, Val Val, Graubünden, Switzerland
Aesthetic hand specimen of intensely colored and transparent smoky quartz with beautifully crystallized thread quartz.
Aside from its excellent quality, what makes this crystal special is that the largest Fadenquartz exhibits a twist that is otherwise only found in Gwindel crystals. Scientists disagree on whether the combination of Fadenquartz and Gwindel crystals exists, so the crystal cannot be clearly defined as a Gwindel crystal. Regardless, it is certainly a rare and unique piece.
Steps like these are an absolute alpine classic as there are no comparable ones anywhere in the world.
The Val Val is a side valley of the Val Giuv and has mineral deposits of the same high quality as the more famous Val Giuv.
The Val Giuv, near Sedrun in the Surselva region of the canton of Graubünden, has always been synonymous with the special color and quality of Swiss smoky quartz, which distinguishes it from other quartz.
Under the most difficult conditions, the crystals are recovered by the prospectors at an altitude of approximately 3,000 meters.
