Rock crystal with Byssolite, Epidoth – Glacier du Miage, Monte Bianco, Italy
Found September 2020
Highly lustrous rock crystal specimen with the green byssolite inclusions typical of the Miage Glacier (Mont Blanc). This unique piece is composed of multiple double terminated crystals with a superb luster. The byssolite threads can be seen particularly well in the transparent quartz. Green epidote has grown into the side of the rock crystal.
The specimen was found in three parts in the cleft (see photos). The pieces were professionally assembled in the lab to the original specimen.
Since mineral collecting on the Italian side of Mont Blanc is rarely permitted, finds from this region are extremely rarely offered.
The find area is located in extremely difficult to access and extremely alpine terrain at an altitude of about 3,600 meters.
