Anhydrite – NEAT Tunnel, Switzerland
Found May 2005, 14,472 m from Erstfeld
Former Dr. Walter Kühnel Collection, 2006
Aesthetically structured, clear anhydrite floater crystal with hematite from the NEAT Base Tunnel. Since anhydrites do not occur at the surface or in open fractures, these pieces are only found in projects like the NEAT tunnel construction. Since most of the crystals were destroyed during tunnel construction, pieces like this are extremely rare.
Anhydrite is an extremely rare mineral found almost exclusively in Swiss tunnel construction sites, such as the Simplon Tunnel at the beginning of the 20th century and the NEAT Tunnel. A beautiful, crystal-clear crystal of good size and excellent quality!
An absolute rarity that is no longer offered even at Swiss mineral exchanges and can only be found in old collections!
